This is a complete, up-to-date list of Sri Lanka’s entrance fees for foreign tourists in 2026. Most of the famous cultural sites are priced in US dollars and paid in rupees at the daily gate rate, so treat these as a close guide rather than fixed figures. On our tours, all listed entrance fees are included β€” but it helps to know what you are paying for.

πŸ›• Cultural Triangle & heritage sites

Site Foreign adult (2026)
Sigiriya Rock Fortress ~USD 35
Dambulla Cave Temple ~LKR 3,000
Polonnaruwa ~USD 30
Anuradhapura ~USD 30
Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic ~LKR 2,000
Mihintale ~USD 8
Galle Fort Free (museums charge separately)
Pinnawala Elephant Orphanage ~USD 16

SAARC nationals receive a 50% discount at the Cultural Fund sites. Tickets are single-entry and valid the same day only.

πŸ’° National parks & safaris β€” the fee is not the whole cost

The advertised park fee is only part of what a safari costs, because a per-group service charge, VAT and a vehicle charge are added, and the jeep is hired separately. Here are the entry fees and the realistic all-in cost:

Park Entry fee All-in (1 adult + charges)
Yala ~USD 25 ~USD 46
Minneriya / Kaudulla ~USD 25 ~USD 40–46
Horton Plains ~USD 25 ~USD 30–35
Udawalawe ~USD 15 ~USD 30–35
Wilpattu ~USD 15 ~USD 30–35
Sinharaja ~USD 15 + compulsory guide fee

The all-in figure above is the government permit only; the jeep and tracker are additional. On our safari tours, the jeep, tracker and all park fees are bundled into one price, so there are no surprises at the gate.

πŸ’° Why are the fees in US dollars?

The Central Cultural Fund sites (Sigiriya, Polonnaruwa, Anuradhapura and others) set their prices in US dollars and convert to rupees daily at the posted gate rate. That is why you will see slightly different rupee amounts quoted on different days β€” and why we publish the dollar figure with a “payable in rupees” note rather than a fixed rupee price.

πŸ’° How to save on entrance fees

  • Choose your sites. You do not have to see every ancient city. Polonnaruwa is more compact and better preserved than Anuradhapura if you only want one.
  • Consider the alternatives. A safari at Udawalawe (USD 15 entry) is far cheaper than Yala (USD 25+) and has the most reliable elephants.
  • Skip-the-climb options are free or cheaper. The Pidurangala viewpoint is a cheaper alternative to climbing Sigiriya.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

How much does it cost to climb Sigiriya in 2026?

About USD 35 per foreign adult, paid in rupees at the daily rate, with children under six free and reduced SAARC rates. It is included on our tours.

Why is the Yala safari fee higher than the advertised USD 25?

Because a USD 10 group service charge, 18% VAT and a vehicle charge are added, bringing the government permit to about USD 46 per person β€” before the jeep and tracker. This surprises many visitors, which is why we include everything in one price.

Are entrance fees included in your tours?

Yes. All entrance fees for the sites listed in your itinerary are included, so you do not need cash at the gates. Optional extras not on the itinerary are the only exception.

Do entrance fees change often?

The rupee amounts shift daily with the exchange rate, and the dollar prices are reviewed periodically. We re-check them regularly, but always treat published figures as a close guide.
